My Existence in Art begins with a personal understanding, and simultaneous definition, of what Art is. This being “work created by artists, as a connective device between themselves and humankind, in an effort to express their experiences, emotions, or conceptual ideas. These works are either based on images viewed in reality or on those found in the imagination.” Under these terms, I have come to believe that successful artwork is able to capture the viewer in an almost trance-like state, and during this moment it fully conveys the entirety of the experience, emotions and ideas the artist intended. A piece of artwork can not only do this to a single person, but can continue to do so to every person who views it, until it's decay or destruction. My understanding of these connective powers bestowed upon artwork allows me to create a verity of visual images in numerous styles and approaches.
I create what I call “Picturesque Imaginary Landscapes,” in which I use conceptual geographic drawings and produce them using the techniques and methods of the early American Landscape Masters. The images for the drawings are all created in my mind and are brought into existence using my predecessors understanding of light and nature. Spending countless hours focusing on certain aspects of the painting in similar manner as the work intensive American Landscape Masters, I have grown a strong respect for their detailed and perfected artwork, and my pieces reflect this strongly. The paintings in the Landscapes section of my portfolio are these images, and are the entirety of my B.F.A degree show at The New Hampshire Institute of Art in May of 2009
My artwork is created to fulfill my necessary impulses to display my conceptual images to the world in a successful and entrancing manner. Some times these ideas are sporadic and not as much based in serene nature, as they are in a multi layered and distorted, cerebral realization. To represent these images I choose to use a massive amount of different mixed media devices and found objects. I have come to use hand melted crayons and wax, along side acrylic and oil paint to achieve the necessary contrast and layered appearance. The Human Skull is a driving symbolic force behind many of these images. The immense implication the skull holds, it's relation to death. This being a valid opposite to picturesque nature, I find it often comes up in my more spontaneous pieces. The pieces in the Mixed Media section of my portfolio are these images, and are a selection of the work done during my time and The New Hampshire Institute of Art from 2005 to 2009.
The most recent of my artistic endeavors since my graduation in May of 2009 are a combination of both landscapes and mixed media pieces, as well as a growing amount of digital work. These pieces can be found in the Post-Graduate section in my portfolio. While working on personal pieces, I have begun a series of landscape commissions, and have also begun creating complex digital album/shirt artwork for regional bands. I also create digital show flyers for promotional companies. As well as producing artwork, a large portion of my time is also spent performing and practicing music with both of my full time bands. I am both the drummer in “HyenaFeast”, a Contemporary Death-Metal group, and “Cauterize the Sun” an Experimental Grind-Core group. Both are based out of Manchester NH, and I have been performing numerous regional shows with “HyenaFeast” most recently, as well as performing for “Heretic Hybrid” a Regional, Massachusetts based, Metal / Hardcore group during the Summer of 2009, and “The Post-War Barbeque” a Death/Thrash Metal group in 2008-2009. Both of my current groups can be found online with full updates on all of our upcoming performances, videos, pictures, and new material. Thank You
