Art is for my purposes, “work created by artists, as a connective device between themselves and humankind, in an effort to express their experiences, emotions, or conceptual ideas. These works are either based on images viewed in reality or on those found in the imagination.” Under these terms, I have come to believe that successful artwork is able to capture the viewer in an almost trance-like state, and during this moment it fully conveys the entirety of the experience, emotions and ideas the artist intended. A piece of artwork can not only do this to a single person, but can continue to do so to every person who views it, until it's decay or destruction. My understanding of these connective powers leads me to create successful landscapes filled with a range of intensity and brilliance.

The majority of my work consists of what I consider to be,“Picturesque Imaginary Landscapes,” in which I use conceptual compositional drawings and produce them using the techniques and methodology of the Early American Landscape Masters. For a while I solely paired these drawings and classic approaches and created works which became my B.F.A degree show at The New Hampshire Institute of Art in May of 2009. Since my graduation I was honored to be excepted into the Hudson River Fellowship in 2010 and attended their month long plein air painting intensive in Hunter N.Y during July 2010. The program consisted of rigorous daily hiking and plien air painting/drawing combined with a few lectures on a verity of topics in relationship to the Hudson River Masters and painting in general. During my time there I created 55 works of art, including a set of 23 painting of different sunsets setting behind Hunter Mountain, and numerous drawing and studies of nature. Since my departure from Hunter I have become more aware of the attributes of nature and have based my most recent work on the pieces I created and experiences from my time there. The compositions are still created from my mind but the pallet and sense of light and space are now more influenced by the what I witnessed in Hunter. As I continue to create more work they have taken a noticeable lead towards a more believable brilliance then a fantastical environment, but continue to convey themselves successfully.

As well as creating landscapes I also do drawings, mixed media, printing, and digital works of a verity of subject matter but mostly the human skull. These ideas tend to spontaneous and unusual.  They are visually multi layered and distorted, cerebral realizations of this common object. To represent these images I have used an assortment of material approaches, ranging from, hand melted crayons, wax and found objects along side acrylic and oil paint, to Pen and Ink drawings combined with watercolors. All approaches achieve the necessary contrast and/or layered appearance I desire and allow the work to not be a stylized as the landscapes tend to be.

Art is not my only passion. Music has always been a major part of my life, and continues to be. I have been playing drums for 14 years and have been performing for 8. Over the last 3 years I have performed for the following groups. HyenaFeast (03/2009-01/2011), Cauterize the Earth (08/2009-4/2010), Heretic Hybrid (05/2009-08/2009), The Postwar Barbeque (08/2008-03/2009). I am currently looking for a new project and my work in Hyenafeast can be heard at www.myspace.com/hyenafeast, as well as youtube.com
